About the Journal

Brief history of the magazine

Psico Magazine, created in 1971, accepts unpublished works in Psychology and related areas. Throughout its almost 50 years, Psico has maintained its regular and uninterrupted presence, undergoing some changes that demonstrate the successive commitment of the journal's editorial staff, which constantly seeks the technical and scientific improvement of the journal.

Mission

The Journal's mission is to publish original academic works related to Psychological Sciences that contribute to the theoretical, methodological, and/or empirical improvement of the field.

Focus and Scope

Psico publishes results of empirical research or systematic reviews in the area of Psychological Science, in particular studies and experiments encompassing cognitive psychology, psychological assessment, social psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, clinical psychology, neuropsychology and psychobiology. Articles are published in which research methods are clearly employed in the field of Psychology and whose results contribute to the advancement of Psychological Science.

Peer Review Process

Submitted texts are formally evaluated first by the editorial staff, who may request corrections and additions. Texts that do not fit the scope of the Magazine, that do not meet mandatory requirements or that are not adequate within the deadline will be archived. Once the admissibility of the submission has been verified, two opinions are requested from people specialised in the subject, which will be used by the publishers, with the latter remaining the final decision. Publication of papers is subject to compliance with its recommendations. The evaluation takes into account the originality of the treatment of the theme, the consistency and rigor of the approach, its contribution and its adequacy to the journal's thematic line. The review system is double-blind: the names of the reviewers will remain confidential and the names of the authors before the reviewers will also be omitted. Evaluators are expected to be objective in their assessment. If there is any conflict of interest or difficulty in making a judgment without significant influence from external factors, they should contact the editors. Expected to indicate relevant literature if not contemplated in the text. The text and other information provided in the evaluation process should be treated confidentially and may not be used for any other purpose.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides open access to all its content, following the principle that free access to scientific research generates a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Preprints

This journal adopts the principles of Open Science, aligning itself with contemporary practices that promote transparency, accessibility, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge.

The journal accepts for evaluation manuscripts already available on a reliable preprint server, such as SciELO Preprints, of a non-commercial nature, provided they are not simultaneously undergoing peer review in another journal. The corresponding author must indicate, at the time of submission, whether the text is available on a preprint server and provide the respective DOI.

Search Data

The journal Psico suggests that authors deposit their research data in institutional or thematic repositories, such as the Zenodo. If the research has reused data, we request that the research data be cited and included with the cover page of the file.

Principles of Ethics and Best Practices in Academic Publishing

Authors reporting human studies should consider all ethical aspects related to the work presented and provide (in the Methods section of the manuscript) detailed information about the informed consent process, including the method used to assess the participant's ability to consent to participate in the study and the care taken to protect all participants. Specifically, authors should consider all relevant ethical issues in their research and discuss them if necessary. All researchers reporting data from human or animal research must have obtained approval of their research from the respective ethics committees of their institution. This approval should be mentioned in the Methods part of the manuscript. In countries where there are no ethics committees or similar bodies, authors should include a statement that their research was conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration, NIH Policy on Use of Laboratory Animals or EU Directive on Use of Animals. All animal studies must contain a statement that the authors have followed the guidelines for the use and care of laboratory animals in their institution established by the National Research Councils and relevant animal protection laws. Psico is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (Cope) and follows its principles

Authorship

The authors are original owners and will be responsible for the originality and authorship of their creation, not being the publisher penalised, civil or criminally, for eventual plagiarism or inappropriate content.

Unprecedented and originality

By submitting the manuscript, the authors ensure that the work has not been previously published or is being reviewed by another journal. Literal copies of excerpts already published will not be accepted, except in exceptional cases, in the form of quotation. Illustrations and graphics from other sources must be credited, or accompanied by permission of their copyright holders, if applicable.

Policy Regarding Ethical Misconduct Issues

Anyone can report instances of ethical misconduct to the journal, provided they supply responsible and sufficient information for an investigation to begin. Upon receiving a report, the author(s) will have the opportunity to respond to the allegations.

The actions taken depend on the severity of the misconduct and include:

  • informing or educating authors and reviewers about the ethical standards that should be adopted, requesting correction;
  • sending a formal letter alerting about research misconduct;
  • publishing a notice alerting readers about the misconduct;
  • publishing an editorial about the misconduct;
  • writing a formal letter to the university or funding agency denouncing the author for research misconduct;
  • withdrawing the article from the journal, explaining the reason to readers, and sending a letter to the university and indexing databases;
  • reporting the case to the justice system and responsible bodies.

Conflict of Interest

The journal Psico requires all authors, editors, and reviewers to declare any conflicts of interest, financial or non-financial, that may influence—or be perceived to influence—the reader's interpretation of the article. Perceptions of conflicts of interest are as relevant as actual conflicts. Whenever there is any relationship between the authors and public or private organizations that could generate a conflict of interest, this information must be communicated and specified in the article. If there are no conflicts of interest, this must also be explicitly stated.

Ethics Committee

The journal Psico is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows its principles of ethics, transparency, and integrity in publication.

Instructions for complaints and grievances

Complaints against the journal or its staff should be addressed, in the first instance, to one of the two editors-in-chief. As appropriate, they will conduct an internal investigation. If necessary, they may request additional assistance from the Editorial Board. The investigation should be carried out swiftly and transparently.

Error correction and retractions

Authors must commit to the publishing house, delivering the text in appropriate language and suitable for publication. However, you must notify the publisher if an error is identified in order to publish an erratum.

Errata

Regarding the registration and publication of Errata (for correction, inclusion, or exclusion of information) and Retraction (total or partial), the guidelines adopted by the SciELO platform in its official documents will be followed.

Similarity Verification

The journal uses Turnitin Originality software to verify the similarity of manuscripts. All manuscripts are analyzed in the initial submission phase, before being sent for evaluation.

Confidentiality

The text submitted for evaluation is a document and will be protected from any form of exploitation.

Digital Preservation of Articles

The preservation policy is aligned with, and subordinate to, the policy and objectives of the SciELO Program.
