About the Journal

Brief history about the journal

Founded in 2013, PAJAR is the interdisciplinary scientific journal of the Institute of Geriatrics and Gerontology at PUCRS. Its objective is to publish unpublished works that deal with the theme of aging. In ten years of uninterrupted operation, it has accounted for approximately 130 articles. As of 2020, it started to accept only original articles in Portuguese, Spanish and English and adopted continuous flow publication, allowing more agility in the publication of scientific contributions. In 2022, it started to use social networks for greater dissemination and communication of scientific content (https://linktr.ee/revistapajar).

Mission

To disseminate and reflect on scientific works that address the theme of human aging, through a multidisciplinary approach, especially for researchers, scientists, and scholars in this area.

Focus and escope

Human aging, longevity and health care.

Peer review process

Submitted texts are first formally evaluated by the editorial team, who may request corrections and additions. Texts that do not fall within the scope of the Journal, that do not meet the mandatory requirements or that are not adequate within the established deadline, will be archived. Once the submission is admissible, two opinions are requested from specialists on the subject, which will be used by the editors, with the latter making the final decision. The publication of articles is subject to compliance with its recommendations. The evaluation takes into account the originality of the treatment of the topic, the consistency and rigor of the approach, its contribution and its adequacy to the thematic line of the journal. The review system is double-blind: the names of reviewers will remain confidential and the names of authors before reviewers will also be omitted. Assessors are expected to be objective in their assessment. If there is any conflict of interest or difficulty in making a judgment without significant influence from outside factors, they should contact the editors. They are expected to indicate relevant literature if they are not accepted in the text. Text and other information provided in the evaluation process must be treated confidentially and cannot be used for any other purpose.

Frequency of publication

Continuous flow of publication.

Open acess policies

The journal offers open access to all its content, following the principle that free access to scientific research generates a greater global exchange of knowledge. Principles of Ethics and Best Practices in Academic Publications.

Preprints

This journal adopts the principles of Open Science, aligning itself with contemporary practices that promote transparency, accessibility, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge. The journal accepts for evaluation manuscripts already available on a reliable preprint server, such as SciELO Preprints, of a non-commercial nature, provided they are not simultaneously undergoing peer review in another journal. The corresponding author must indicate, at the time of submission, whether the text is available on a preprint server and provide the respective DOI.

Search Data

PAJAR Journal suggests that authors deposit their research data in institutional or thematic repositories, such as the Zenodo. If the research has reused data, we request that the research data be cited and included with the title page of the file.

Principles of ethics and good practices in academic publishing

Authorship

The authors are the original owners and will be responsible for the originality and authorship of their creation, and the editor will not be penalized, civilly or criminally, for any plagiarism or inappropriate content.

Unprecedented and originality

By submitting the manuscript, the authors guarantee that the work has not been previously published or is being reviewed by another journal. Literal copies of previously published excerpts will not be accepted, except in exceptional cases, in the form of a citation. Illustrations and graphics from other sources must be credited or accompanied by permission from their copyright holders, if applicable.

Policy on Misconduct in Scientific Publication

To promote research integrity and strengthen transparency in the process, all material submitted to and published in the PAJAR journal must comply with the Good Practices Guide for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publication and the Open Science Compliance Form.

Regarding the retraction policy, in cases of misconduct, the PAJAR journal follows the guidelines adopted by the SciELO platform according to the Good Practices Guide and the Guide for the registration and publication of retractions. Retractions will only be published after analysis and authorization by the editorial board.

Conflict of Interest

PAJAR requires all authors, editors, and reviewers to declare any conflicts of interest, financial or non-financial, that may influence—or be perceived to influence—the reader's interpretation of the article. Perceptions of conflicts of interest are as relevant as actual conflicts. Whenever there is any relationship between the authors and public or private organizations that could generate a conflict of interest, this information must be communicated and specified in the article. If there are no conflicts of interest, this must also be explicitly stated.

Ethics Committee

The PAJAR journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and adheres to its principles of ethics, transparency, and integrity in publication.

Instructions for Reporting Complaints and Reports

Complaints against the magazine or its staff should be addressed, in the first instance, to one of the two editors-in-chief. As appropriate, they will conduct an internal investigation. If necessary, they may request additional assistance from the Editorial Board. The investigation should be conducted swiftly and transparently.

Bug fixes and retractions

Authors must commit to the publisher, delivering the text in adequate and suitable language for publication. However, you must notify the editor if an error is identified in order to publish an erratum.

Corrections

Regarding the registration and publication of Corrections (for correction, inclusion or exclusion of information) and Retractions (total or partial), the guidelines adopted by the SciELO platform in its official documents will be followed.

Similarity Check

The journal uses Turnitin Originality software to check the similarity of manuscripts. All manuscripts are analyzed in the initial submission phase, before being sent for evaluation.

Confidentiality

The text submitted for evaluation is a document and will be protected from any form of exploitation.
