Abstract

The liver transplantation in children is a treatment that is indicate on cases which the disease is progressive, irreversible and not susceptive to other treatment. Is a very delicate procedure, the family and de child have to pass by pre transplant evaluations, waiting list, transplant surgery and possible complications. We think that the transplant process is an apprehensive situation that brings felling and doubts to the parents of the children that need this treatment, and most of the families believe that the transplant means the end of the disease. The aim of this article is to study the felling that the parents of a liver transplanted child have, when the child needs to re-intern on the hospital. For this, we assessed the psychological sessions with parents of children transplanted to re-hospitalized, in the “Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre”. From the analysis of the interviews, it was noted that parents tended to equate the success of surgery to cure the disease, trying to ignore the possibility of further complications. As a result, cases of re-admission can be experienced as a failure, arousing feelings of anger and guilt. In this sense, the psychological support for parents becomes indispensable as a place of refuge, understanding and assistance in seeking the development of conflicts.
