Supervised Trainings and Extensions in the Academic Education of Psychologists in the Context of the BrazilianUnified Health System

Abstract

Our aim is to discuss how supervised trainings and extensions in the curriculum during undergraduate psychology

courses can improve the education for work in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). We present results from a research carried out in undergraduate courses in psychology in Alagoas. The methodological procedures used were questionnaires and document analysis. We seek to identify supervised trainings and extension practices associated with the health field; scenarios, methods and intervention strategies. We discuss these results in relation to what is being developed in the compulsory subjects of the course curricula. We conclude that these activities can favor psychology training to work in SUS, but should be based on knowledge built in curricular subjects, where we still find weaknesses in this regard. It is therefore necessary not only to invest in these activities, but in the pursuit of harmony between these different aspects of academic education, qualifying the dialogue with local, thematic and theoretical frameworks converging with the Brazilian public health policy.
