Filho de uma época de profundas metamorfoses, Tomé Tavares (1570-1634) inserese nas coordenadas de um espírito barroco, marcado pelo desnudamento das palavras e pela ‘guilhotina’ da sátira viperina e desmedida. Numa sociedade manchada pela hipocrisia e pelas frivolidades mundanas, a sátira burlesca surge como um sopro regenerador, dando lugar não só a um riso irreverente, muitas vezes de cumplicidade, mas também como factor de libertação mediante um mundo impregnado de valores deturpados.

Abstract:
Son of a period of profound transformations, Tomé Tavares (1570-1634) is part of a baroque spirit, marked by the unveiling of the words and by the satire’s poisonous and unmeasured guillotine. In a society marred by hypocrisy and the worldly frivolities, burlesque satire comes as a regenerator blow, giving rise not only to an irreverent laugh, often in complicity, but also as a releasing factor by a world steeped in misrepresented values.
