Abstract

ABSTRACT: The general aim of this paperwork is present John Locke’s groundings for his civil disobedience theory. In first place, it reveals his freedom concept, relating it to his characterization of the nature state, war state and civil state, as well as presenting other related concepts, like nature law, property etc. In second place, this paperwork concentrates in the resistance right, presenting philosopher’s thought about the foundations of the political power, the distinction between other kinds of power, the sources of social and governmental degradation, and sovereign’s authority loss with the consequent resistance legitimacy. This paperwork intent to understand how Locke conciliates the apparently contradictory ideas of freedom and obedience. Some theoretical innovations of Locke’s thought on Political Philosophy are also presented. KEY WORDS: Locke. Freedom. Resistance right. Civil disobedience.
