The secret life of Walter Mitty. Ben Stiller. Robert Musil. Sense of reality. Sense of possibility.Abstract
This essay presents the movie The secret life of Walter Mitty, directed by Ben Stiller and based on a short story written by James Thurber in the decade of 1930 under the perspective of the notions of sense of reality and possibility, both presented by Robert Musil in his novel The man without qualities. We have shown, by throwing lights over the different experiences that are possible in the interval that exists between whatever lies as possible and actual in the protagonist’s actions, an abundance of illustrations of liberty ruptures with petty bourgeoisie life and a possible self-discovery that emerges from the non-hierarchization of values among whatever lies in existence or as a possibility.
