150 years of Italian immigration in Brazil

2023-10-20

In 2025, the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration to Rio Grande do Sul will be celebrated. The first massive influx of peninsulars into the whole country began in 1875, with the migratory policies of colonization in this state. On the occasion of this important event, the proposal is to organize a specific dossier, with the objective of bringing an updated balance of studies related to the history of Italian immigration in Brazil. It intends to accompany what has been researched from an international perspective, offering readers the results of multidisciplinary historical-scientific investigations. Emphasis will be placed on the historical links between the two countries and the mobility processes that generated dynamics of cultural hybridity, with evident consequences in various fields in the organization of the entire Brazilian society. The objective is to emphasize the complexity of the theme through the most recent academic production that, with different theoretical approaches, stimulates the perspective of interdisciplinary intersection in the socioeconomic, political, religious, educational and cultural spheres.
