Beyond the Routine: the Political Dimension in the Work of Social Workers and its inseparability with the Ethical-Political Project and the Social Management of the professional category

The article presents results of bibliographical and empirical research on professionals' understanding of the political dimension of social workers' work. The production will emphasize the articulation between the data collected from the professional category, mediated by theoretical analysis, giving visibility to it through the evidence of the profile of these professionals, their apprehension about this dimension and the main challenges for implementing the political dimension in the work under the horizon of the Social Service Ethical-Political Project. The weaknesses in the professionals' apprehension, as well as the difficulties presented in their professional daily lives, are associated with a distancing from the critical perspective, point to the urgency of resuming the discussion of the political dimension of the work of social workers in times of neoconservative rise, individualization, competition, immediacy, flexibility, precariousness and regression of working class rights in an ultra-neoliberal context.
