Dermocosmetics prescribed during pregnancy

Objective: To conduct a survey over the use of cosmetics prescribed during the pregnancy in the city of São Luís (MA), identifying the main issues reported by pregnant women in doctor’s office, the products and active ingredients most prescribed by dermatologists and gynecologists/obstetricians. Materials and Methods: We performed an observational and cross-sectional study involving a representative sample of medical providers specialized in dermatology, gynecology and obstetrics in the city, where the data were collected through a questionnaire prepared by the authors. Results: The study evaluated 46 Professionals. The issues of greatest significance found were skin streaks, spots and tiredness in the legs. The active ingredients more often prescribed were almond oil, azelaic acid, glycolic acid, allantoin, collagen and urea. Products such as moisturizers and sunscreen were the most mentioned. Conclusion: Problems like skin streaks, spots and liquid retention are the most common in pregnant women from São Luís city, Maranhão state, according to the professional group of this survey. The active ingredients prescribed to pregnant women were almond oil, azelaic acid, glycolic acid, allantoin, collagen and urea, and also moisturizers and sunscreen.Downloads
