Objective: To identify the main health problems that affect pregnant women with high-risk pregnancies to conduct preventive actions.
Materials and Methods: Observational, cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach, conducted with a sample of 87 pregnant women chosen by sampling accessibility. A questionnaire with closed-ended questions was used. Given that all variables are categorical, we used the chi-square test, with the Spearman’s correlation. Our data were analyzed with SPSS version 23.
Results: The most frequent consultation reason was for prenatal care routine (37.9%, n=33). From the total of 87 pregnant women, 44 (50.6%) reported a problem in their current health situation, being the most cited hypertension (23%, n=20). Among the other health problems cited, the most frequent was back pain (82.8%, n=72), followed by dental caries (49.4%, n=43) and 26 (29.9%) with gingival bleeding. There was a significant correlation (p<0.05) between the age of patients and the occurrence of hypertension. The correlation between the categories age of risk and incidence of diabetes mellitus was also significant (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Hypertension was the most prevalent problem, followed by diabetes mellitus. Among other problems, the most common was back pain, followed by dental caries and gingival bleeding. In all these conditions, preventive actions have effective range and represent a significant benefit on maternal and fetal health.
