Abstract

The paper investigates the scope and the role played by the concepts of promise (promesse) and certificate of itself (attestation de soi) in the ricoeurian project known as the hermeneutics of the self. Based on the analysis of Ricoeur's work that is dedicated to the subject, it argues for a functional interdependence of the concepts in the creation of the dynamic unity of the subject that aspires to such hermeneutics. For this purpose, promise and certificate of itself are considered in their mutual implications and its dialectics of selfhood in the sameness and selfhood with otherness, which organize the theoretical concept of oneself. Having as a result, the equivocality inextricable notion of another, revealed in the ambiguity can not be added to each other out while he can not be reduced to the same. KEY WORDS: Promise. Certificate. Hermeneutics
