PRIMA AND ULTIMA FACIE EPISTEMIC JUSTIFICATION
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to discuss about epistemic justification, focusing on prima facie and ultima facie ‘distinction’. First I will present the origin of this distinction. Then, I will offer some examples to illustrate the point and to make this notion more clear. Finally, I will give a more extensive example showing when a person can pass from prima facie to ultima facie justification. The central idea of it is that when a person suffers the epistemic defeating in his/her justification, she/he is only prima facie justified. Otherwise, if a person doesn’t suffer the epistemic defeating, or overcomes it, consequently she/he is ultima facie justified. KEY WORDS: Epistemic justification. Prima facie. Ultima facie.Downloads
