THE QUESTION OF WILL: HANNAH ARENDT AND THE CONFLICT BETWEEN PHILOSOPHY AND POLITICS
Abstract
The study aims to show the concerns that led Hannah Arendt to operate a kind of reversal in her thought. These reflections are present in her work - posthumous and unfinished - The Life of the Mind. In these writings, Arendt is concerned with analyzing what she sees as the basic spiritual activities of man, thinking, willing and judging, with special attention to the will, a mental process that seems to impel individuals to action. In this way, the German thinker identifies the existence of a conflict between the volitional and thinking ego, i.e., between philosophy and politics. Another goal is to show the relationship between The Life of the Mind and the texts that make up the work, also posthumous, Responsibility and Judgment, in which Arendt is dedicated to the issue of morality.
