At the beginning of the 20th century Sigmund Freud revolutionized the history of human knowledge by conceiving and characterizing the unconscious and ingeniously systematizing the human psyche, for such an undertaking, one of the main instruments used by this physician-researcher and founder of psychoanalysis was the analysis of dreams, this being one of the ways to understand and access the unconscious for the purpose of finding pathological causes and disorders in general. The list of convergences between the thoughts of Freud and Schopenhauer is already known mainly for the concepts of drive, will, sexuality and madness, however, in this text I intended to exclusively investigate Schopenhauer’s dream conception in order to answer to what extent dreams may or may not be subject to the principle of sufficient reason – which governs the world as a representation in time, space and causality.
