Enlightenment recognized as a period of lights, emancipated human reason free from any submission. Despite the universal idea, it was not so for women. Kant in many writings makes clear his view that the woman, related to the “beautiful”, is devoid of virtues, manifesting her actions from emotion, and never guided by reason. In the same period, Mary Wollstonecraft writes A Vindication of the Rights of Woman: With Strictures on Political and Moral Subjects, in which she argues about the position of women in society and how their exclusion from the field of reason affects social life. Given this, the present text seeks to carry out a dialogue between Kantian theory and Wollstonecraft's ideas, in order to, in a second moment, present the new feminist perspectives on issues involving the position of women in society and gender equality.
