It is clear that Heidegger's reading of nietzschean philosophy was one of the most controversial. Especially because he insisted on framing Nietzsche in the line that was most the target of his thinking, that is, metaphysics. This work aims to explain how Nietzsche is understood as part of the history of metaphysics under the philosophical perspective of Martin Heidegger. For that, it will be necessary to take two general steps. First, to point out what Heidegger means by metaphysics, namely, the history of philosophy as the forgetfulness of Being. Second, to make a detailed reading of the essay “the nietzschean sentence 'God is dead'” reconstructing Heidegger's argument. It is in this essay in which he locates Nietzsche's philosophy within metaphysics, more precisely, as the part that exhausts it.
