Abstract

This paper aims to perform a comparative analysis of the way Edith Stein and Simone Weil develop the concept of body in their works, especially in their youth writings. We start by analyzing how each of the philosophers understands corporeality, indicating below their similarities and differences. Although we find several studies pointing out the affinity between the philosophers, such works usually investigate their biographical similarities or their involvement with the mystical experience. Following, however, a little-explored path, we try to analyze their convergences and divergences regarding the notion of the body specifically, demonstrating, through such study, how both Stein and Weil present original considerations around the theme, a subject also little investigated in the research on the phenomenology of corporeality.
