Abstract

In 1973, Georges Canguilhem published a detailed historical entry on the concept of “Life” in biology and the life sciences for the French-language Encyclopédie Universalis. The following translation in Portuguese of the encyclopedia entry is based on the second edition, a reprint of the first, published in 1989, on pages 546 553.
