Abstract

The long debate caused by the Western Schism (1378-1417) provided a fruitful deepening of some very fundamental concept of political philosophy, which, although still within the framework of medieval philosophy, offers elements that will be fundamental to the development of modern political philosophy. In this article we will study the contribution given by John Gerson to this particular debate, especially concerning the concepts of natural law, forms of government and division of powers.
