Moralidade positiva e moralidade crítica

Resumo

Crenças e atitudes morais podem variar bastante de uma sociedade para outra. Mesmo no interior de uma mesma sociedade, as crenças e atitudes morais predominantes podem variar ao longo da história dessa sociedade. As crenças e atitudes morais predominantes em uma determinada sociedade, em uma determinada época, constituem a “moralidade positiva” dessa sociedade. Mas seria possível de alguma forma avaliarmos moralmente a “moralidade positiva”? Neste artigo apresento razões para darmos uma resposta afirmativa a essa questão. A avaliação moral da “moralidade positiva” deve recorrer aos princípios gerais da “moralidade crítica”. A concepção de “moralidade crítica” que defendo neste artigo envolve uma retomada e interpretação da filosofia moral de David Hume. Na última parte deste artigo procuro também mostrar como obras de formação, tais como romances, documentários, filmes, e certos tipos de obras de arte podem participar do processo de deliberação racional próprio da “moralidade crítica”.
