Correlation with intelligence, socio-economic variables and social skills

Abstract

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a psychological construct widely employed in the last two decades, especially outside the academic scope. A broader range of scientific studies to consolidate the construct. Hence, the goal of this research was to analyze the relationship between EI and Intelligence (G), age, gender, family income, education and Social skills (HS). A total number of 120 participants of both genders and ages 18 to 61 took tests on emotional perception and comprehension, abstract reasoning and verbal and social skills. Results indicate a significant positive correlation between EI, G and education, a negative correlation between EI and age, no relation among EI, HS and family income and no gender difference for EI. Abstract reasoning was found to be the best predictor for the construct. Such information adds to the understand of EI and highlights its current relevance.
