Abstract

In the term that followed the civil-military coup of September 11th of 1973, the illegal violent acts – such as torture and shootings – carried out by Chilean security agencies hit the community of Brazilians exiled in the country. The Brazilian National Security dictatorship (SN) contributed to the actions of the Chilean Military Junta, rather than offering assistance to the exiled. An agent team was sent to the country with two main goals: to interrogate the Brazilians locked up in local detention centers and to teach classes for specialized and “efficient” interrogation methods to Chilean military and police officers. That way, it was settled a transmission net of “know-how” repressive standards from the Brazilian dictatorship to the Chileans, a net that was later extended to Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay with the creation of Operação Condor in 1975. The SN dictatorships from Cone Sul’s goal with the sharing of information and illicit methods of state violence was to target their political opponents wherever they went, whether in national or foreign territory.
