Abstract

This paper reflects on the theme of genealogy as critique in Michel Foucault’s philosophy. The argument questions the importance of the critical procedure in the genealogical phase. For this, the hypothesis adopts the microphysics of power as an object of analysis to develop the main aspects of Foucault’s critical thought. The paper presents the following steps: a) readings offered on genealogy as critique; b) the relationship between genealogy and critique in Foucault’s research; c) notes on what a microphysics of power is capable of; d) the importance of the forms of problematization. The paper observes the little attention given to critique within Foucault’s thought in relation to commentaries’ review. The conclusion argues that Foucault’s attempts to make a genealogy as critique imply the possibility of critical thought being a form of research on the diagnosis of the present.
