Abstract

This work aims to discuss theoretical aspects of Language Teaching for Specific Purposes and apply them to the context of Portuguese as an Additional Language (PAL). Therefore, we consider the importance of Needs Analysis, the four language skills and the use of corpora. Moreover, we apply these principles in the preparation of educational materials and teaching unit for PAL for Tourism studies. Furthermore, we also offer an example of a teaching unit, which has as its theme “streets” and their relationship with Tourism and related areas, as Hospitality. Our final considerations emphasize the importance of our study and the lack of resources for the PLA teacher for specific purposes. This lack of resources is in terms of theoretical support and the availability of materials and teaching unities.
