Abstract

This paper presents a literature review regarding the personality and violent behavior. We discuss some important biological aspect related to this matter like the causal relation between low serotonin concentration in the CNS and genetic influences on aggressive behavior. Seeing the individual as a biopsychosocial being, we have also raised some psychosocial questions that support a comprehensive approach to violent conduct. We concluded that studies in this area are very scarce and much research is still needed in order to make the clinicians able to intervene consistently in the treatment and prevention of violent behavior. Key words: violent behavior; neurotransmitters; hormones; personality.
