Abstract

This work brings information on the activity, environment use, behavior and density of capybaras in Pantanal do Miranda, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. There 111 records in 60 h of observation. The capybaras were more active at dawn and at midday, they preferred the environment close to water and with the low grass, and in most of the records they were foraging and resting. These data are in accordance to the literature. However the abundance was 2.2 indiv/ha, below the one already registered for the Pantanal in Mato Grosso.
