Confirmation of the occurrence of <i>Himantopus melanurus</i> Vieillot, 1817 and first record of <i>Larus maculipennis</i> Lichtensteis 1823 for Uruguaiana, region of the Brazilian Pampa, RS

Abstract

This note confirms the occurrence of Himantopus melanurus (Black-tailed-stilt), and the first record of Larus maculipennis (Brown-hooded Gull) at the western Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The two species was recorded around area of the Parque Municipal de Uruguaiana, 5th district, São Marcos. This species are generally found along the flooded areas using them for food, shelter and nesting. They are resident and migratory species usually associated with the Brazilian coast. The record of those species at this are shows that the place can be used for migratory routes conservation. Keywords: Municipal Park, birds, geographical distribution, migratory birds.
