Abstract

This essay aims to discuss the relevance of the concept of intensified continuity to the task of analyzing film and other audiovisual products’ soundtracks. In addition to detailing the origins and development of the concept, created by David Bordwell, the essay examines two previous tentatives of conceptual correspondence between the term and certain sound editing and mixing strategies used by professionals in sound post-production. The essay also tests the theoretical premises through a case study, analyzing the soundtrack of a scene from the feature film Drive (2011), directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. The analysis was made by opening and scrutinizing the sound track on Pro Tools software, the main sound editing and mixing station work on film industry for now.
