There is an old debate on the liberating function, or not, of visual communication technologies. Originally the question was focused on the role of film and photography for the social and cultural relations. Walter Benjamin and Theodor Adorno are the precursors of these investigations, and, to some extent, Guy Debord, Jean Baudrillard and Paul Virilio as heirs. From the dialogue with these authors, we will construct a reflection on the ethical blindness to which we return also the observations of Gabriel Marcel and Martin Buber, seeking to understand the links between television, the violence of the images and ethical behavior in contemporary society.Downloads
