SPECIAL ISSUE: The teaching of Portuguese as an additional language (PAL)

The teaching of Portuguese as an additional language (PAL) is present in many institutions around the world in primary, secondary, and higher education. Although the demand for PAL learning has grown in the last decade, opportunities for teacher training in PAL specifically are still scarce. Thinking about this reality, this issue of Letras de Hoje aims to promote actions related to the training of PAL teachers in different national and international contexts. Therefore, for this specific issue, we will consider articles that address the following thematic axes: 

- PAL/Portuguese as a Foreign Language/Portuguese as a Welcoming Language/Portuguese as a Heritage Language teacher training in national and international territories; 

- Applying critical and innovative pedagogies for PAL teacher education; 

- The use of technology in PAL teacher education; 

- Applied linguistics for PAL teacher education; 

- Governmental and/or institutional language policies developed for PAL teacher education.
