Abstract

This essay is about research and production of knowledge in Social Service from a Marxist perspective and its tradition. It also propose the a critical revisit of the Marxist legacy in the profession, emphasizing the pertinence and necessary concern for a productive dialogue between the Marxian production (as a social theory) and Social Service (as one of the professions witch deals with the multiple expressions of the social issues). Based on these considerations some important aspects are indicated for the production of knowledge in Social Service, its specificities and utility for the education and professional intervention of the social worker.
