Abstract

This work aims a (new)reading of novel Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, in ordem to discuss the “formation of a love couple myth” Žižekian concept. This myth is proposed by Slovene philosopher Slavoj Žižek, one of the important names of Lacanianism, which applies Jacques Lacan’s ideas on Dialectic Materialism, in order to discuss about politics, cinema and other themes. Therefore, it is qualitative, biographical work, based on Slavoj Žižek›s theories and Lacanian materialism. Žižek presents the love couple formation myth as a ramification of ideology’s Family myth, which works as a powerful mechanism of ideological dissemination, very popular in movies and specially in Hollywood. Starting from Žižek’s ideas, it was found that Brave New World denies creating a love couple, because it first creates such possibility only to frustrate this idea.

Marcia Geralda de Almeida é graduada em Letras Habilitação Português/Inglês e Literaturas Correspondentes pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Entre 2015 e 2016 desenvolveu pesquisa de iniciação científica (PIC) na área de literatura, aplicando as teorias do materialismo lacaniano ao romance Vidas Secas, de Graciliano Ramos. Está vinculada ao Grupo de estudos literários “Aplicação do pensamento de Slavoj Žižek na análise literária”. Tem mestrado em estudos literários, pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá, concluído em 2019.

Marisa Corrêa Silva é professora na Universidade Estadual de Maringá, atuando no PLE (Programa de pós-graduação em Letras) . Tem Mestrado e Doutorado pela Unesp e pós-doutorado com Phillip Rothwell na Rutger’s - the State University of New Jersey. É vice-presidente da Anpoll (Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Letras e Linguística, mandato 2018-2020), especialista em Helder Macedo e pioneira no Brasil na aplicação do pensamento de Slavoj Žižek à análise literária. Lidera o Grupo de pesquisa “Aplicação do Pensamento de S. Žižek na análise Literária”, cadastrado no CNPq. Autora de “Partes de África: cartografia de uma Identidade Cultural Portuguesa”, “O Percurso do Outro ao Mesmo: sagrado e profano em Helder Macedo e em Saramago” e “Sobre literatura & Outras Coisas boas”.
