Introduction: In the curriculum innovation process, the curriculum of many courses at PUCRS, in the light of the National Curriculum Guidelines, count today with disciplines that develop internship, assisted practices, complementary activities and community outreach outside the University Campus. In order to improve and encourage the participation of students in learning activities that involves the insertion of the same in communities with social vulnerability, the interaction project was created.
Objective: To get information about the interaction project with students who conducted the workshops, with regard to skills development focused on social and community dimension.
Material and Methods: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The study participants were students of PUCRS who participated in the interaction project workshops in the 2nd semester of 2011 and 1st semester of 2012. The total number of participants was 173 students of different health areas, which are: Nursing, Social Services, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Medicine, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Physical Education and Psychology. Data collection was done by means of an instrument with open and closed questions and analyzed using the thematic analysis method of Minayo.
Results: Four themes emerged: Fears/challenges encountered in the relationship with the community/institution; Interaction and building links; Discoveries in meetings/gatherings with the community/institution and competencies/skills needed to develop the practice in the community.
Conclusion: It is noteworthy that the interaction project has been established as an important space for the maturation of a model of Education Socially Responsible University, allowing students to create “constructive” meaning in their personal and professional training, as well as citizens.
