Abstract

The Saco do Laranjal is located in the municipal area of Pelotas-RS, Brazil. It is part of the Lagoa dos Patos, the biggest Laguna of Brazil and the second in Latin America. This area has a major importance to local fishery families and to tourists from adjacent areas. As result of this importance, the main objective of this study is to elaborate an economic valuation of Saco do Laranjal region. We have use the Contingent Valuation test to estimate the main aspects related with the wiliness to pay for this natural resources. First, it was applied 170 questionnaires including questions about wiliness to pay, education level and revenue. The main results show that 91.77% of the habitants from this area are wiliness to pay something to conserve the environment and natural resources. The average wiliness to pay it was estimated as R$ 26.27 per year, which represents a total economic value of R$ 8,194,409.01.
