Industrialization of Brazil in the 1930's: an analysis with the game theory

This work studied the industrialization of Brazil in a context of economic and political changes of the first Administration of Getúlio Vargas, from 1930 to 1945. In the literature of the Brazilian economy two points of view arise regarding the emergence of industry in Brazil: the industrialization was the result of government intervention in the coffee sector or it was deliberately promoted by the government of Getúlio Vargas. Based on an analysis of equilibrium in a dynamic game of imperfect information, rationality was evident in the creation of institutions for industrial development in the 1930s. The equilibrium outcome suggests that industrialization was intentional, which contradicts the classical theory of Celso Furtado on the rise of industry in BraziL.Downloads
