Abstract

This article aims to study the use of the forum discussion tool on the teaching of Statistics Applied to Administration. We´ve analyzed a forum occurred in a hybrid discipline. The students should discuss about the application of the Regression Analysis and Correlation Analysis, done by their authors, on an academic article. We´ve observed that most of the students participated of the discussion, possibly because of its obligatory nature. Most of the messages were considered correct and relevant and were classified as debates messages. There were a large proportion of duplicated messages, large frequency of messages posted on the last day of the forum and a reduction of the quantity of accesses to the forum content after its finish as a source of research. The students´ performance in the forum is not related to the group they belong to (day time and nocturnal time), however day time students posted more new and debate messages than nocturnal students, so we consider day time students´ performance better in these points. Forum can be used on the teaching of Statistics, nevertheless, for being successful, it needs previous planning of the messages posted and interventions made by the tutor and the criterions of evaluation.
