Abstract
SUMMARY
The posterior crossbite (MCP) is a malocclusion of the high prevalence (7 to 23%) that presents transverse discrepancy of the maxillary arch, it’s indicated early treatment because this malocclusion don’t have spontaneous correction. The literature shows that this malocclusion has origin in 3 structures: dentoalveolar (MCP dental), muscular (MCP functional) and osseous (MCP osseous). The purpose of this research was to value the depth palatine from patients with MCP attempting to identify possible vertical alterations in the palate. It were selected 20 casts from patients with MCP and 20 casts from patients without MCP, with Class I occlusion to control group, all casts were from archive of the Department of Orthodontics, School of Dentistry of PUCRS. The depth palatine was measure in first superior molars with millimeters ruler makes to adapt in the midpalatine. The results showed that group with MCP had a mean depth palatine of 1,67 cm, while the control group was 1,56 cm. After statistics analysis, the conclusion was that the group with MCP presented greater depth palatine than control group.
UNITERMS: posterior crossbite, depth palatine.
