Abstract
SUMMARY
The oral Lichen Planus (OLP) is a common chronic inflammatory mucocutaneous disorder of uncertain etiology. Psychiatric disturbances have frequently been related as possible factors involved in the development of OLP lesions, although, this association remains controversial. The present study aimed to make a critical review of the literature concerning this issue. The literature has documented the influence of mental disorders in patients with OLP as anxiety, depression, stress, and others, identifing relevant degrees of incidence in these populations. It has been suggested that certain psychosomatic disturbs could be factors associated to OLP, but a direct correlation between both it have still not well-defined.
UNITERMS: anxiety; depression; lichen planus; stress; psychiatric disturbances.
