Facing a decade of the National Internship Policy in Social Work

Abstract

This article is the result of doctoral research, conducted nationwide, linked to the Postgraduate Program in Social Work at the São Paulo State University (UNESP), Franca Campus. Its main objective was to analyze, using the State of the Art methodology, a decade of approval and implementation of the National Social Work Internship Policy (2010-2020) and its contributions to the qualification of supervised internships in Social Work, based on the principles of the ABEPSS Curriculum Guidelines. The collective movement of the profession in the elaboration of this policy, at the national level, is highlighted, considering the historical challenges for academic and professional training in Social Work, in a context marked by the counter-reform of education, which, within a neoliberal ideology, advocates a technocratic, superficial, and precarious training, which is opposed to the training project defended by the profession, as advocated in the ethical-political project of Social Work and expressed in the ABEPSS Curriculum Guidelines. Based on the study of dissertations and theses, scientific articles, and pedagogical projects, it was identified that, based on the Curricular Guidelines and, in particular, the National Education Plan (PNE), the supervised internship has become more configured in the academic-scientific debate of Social Work, as an object of research, in the category’s organizational forums and in the Academic Training Units, in a permanent commitment to the qualification of the academic-professional training project.
