Objective: To describe the clinical and nutritional profile of the population treated in the process of screening candidates for renal transplantation.
Materials and Methods: Retrospective descriptive study between February/2012 to December/2013 in the Multidisciplinary Pretransplant Screening of the Outpatient Clinic of Santa Casa de Misericordia de Juiz de Fora (MG, Brazil). Individuals (n=410) who were candidates for enrollment in the waiting list for kidney transplant, over 18 years of age, clinically stable renal function with less than 15mL/min and/or in a renal replacement therapy program were evaluated.
Results: Hypertensive Nephrosclerosis was the main cause of kidney disease. Overweight was observed in 46.6% of the sample and 51.0% had metabolic syndrome. Body mass index was higher in subjects with renal transplant contraindicated. Abdominal obesity was found in 71.3% of women. Albumin and creatinine values were higher in patients who had gone through the renal transplantation.
Conclusion: The overweight, present in approximately half of the sample, was shown as a factor that may hinder the effectiveness of kidney transplantation, as in the present study obese individuals were less transplanted compared to those eutrophic.
