The precautionary principle and its applicability in consumer law: a duty to inform

Abstract

This study presents a general outline of the precautionary principle, such as it has been conceived and developed in Brazilian, compared and international environmental law. The goal is to discuss the applicability of the principle in the field of consumer law. The focus is on the right to information, as well as the supplier’s duty to inform which results from the precautionary principle. The case of GMO’s is used as an example.
