Abstract

Organizations have made significant investments in the adoption of models aiming the improvement of their IT Governance standards. Among these models, COBIT stands out as one of the most relevant; however, organizations often face difficulties in adopting it and do not achieve the desired results. The objective of this paper is to identify the perception of experts and CIOs about the contributions of the COBIT to IT and Corporate Governance. It investigates also the challenges and problems of COBIT adoption, and other benefits it brings to the organization. For this, we used an exploratory qualitative approach based semi-structured interviews with Brazilian specialists and CIOs of companies that use the model. The results indicated the existence of seven main challenges related to COBIT adoption, linked to Culture, Maturity, Tropicalization Qualification, Interpretation and Time. Were identified, too, the benefits for five focus areas of IT Governance (Strategic Alignment, Value Delivery, Resource Management, Risk Management and Performance Measurement) and the benefits of COBIT for the five basic principles of Corporate Governance: Protecting Shareholders, Equity, Transparency, Standards and Control.
