O ensino e a pesquisa em Economia na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais
Abstract
A Faculdade de Administração, Contabilidade e Economia da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (FACE/UFMG) foi criada em 1941 e reorganizada em 1945. Nos anos 1950 ocorreu uma série de inovações importantes e a FACE constituiu-se em efetivo centro de ensino e pesquisa interdisciplinar no campo das Ciências Sociais Aplicadas. Entre as inovações institucionais significativas a partir de então foi a implantação do sistema de bolsas de estudos, a adoção do regime de tempo integral para o corpo docente e a criação das revistas no âmbito da FACE, que veicularam temas importantes da realidade brasileira. A partir de 1967, implantou- se a pós-graduação em economia. Ao longo de mais de 60 anos de vida institucional, o ensino e a pesquisa em economia na UFMG buscaram se apropriar dos avanços teóricos e metodológicos alcançados pela área.

Abstract
The FACE (Faculty of Economics) at the UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil) was founded in 1941 and reorganized in 1945. The College became in the 1950s a center of education and interdisciplinary research in the applied social sciences, and introduced a series of important innovations such as the creation of the “Sistema de Bolsas de Estudo” (a scholarship program for full-time undergraduate students) and the adoption of full-time contracts for faculty. The journals edited at the FACE were also significant initiatives and discussed important issues on the Brazilian society. A graduate program was established in 1967. For more than 60 years, the economics education and the research at the FACE kept up with theoretical and methodological advances in the social sciences.
