Evolução do Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano do Brasil e dos países da América Latina e do Caribe, 1975/2004
Abstract
Este artigo examina o desempenho do índice de desenvolvimento humano (IDH) brasileiro, bem como seus indicadores de saúde, educação e renda, ao longo dos relatórios de desenvolvimento humano publicados pelo Programa das Nações Unidas para o Desenvolvimento (PNUD). O trabalho também realiza um comparativo entre a evolução do IDH do Brasil com o dos países latino-americanos, com base em um conjunto de estatísticas e metodologia passíveis de comparação, de acordo com o RDH de 2004. Os principais resultados mostraram que não houve variações muito significativas nos indicadores brasileiros, apesar do País possuir indicadores de renda e de educação ligeiramente superiores aos da América Latina. Contudo, a expectativa de vida ficou abaixo da média latino-americana.

Abstract
This paper examines the behavior of the Brazilian human development index (HDI), and studies its indicators of health, education and income the Human Development Reports (HDR) published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It also examined the tendencies of the human development by 2004 reports, comparing the Brazilian index with Latin America and the Caribbean countries, between 1975 and 2004, according to identical statistics and same procedures for the calculations of the Human Development Index. The main results showed a weak improvement in the Brazilians indicators; despite rent and education Brazilians indexes are slightly bigger than Latin America. However, the life expectancy was below of the Latin American average.
