Migration Governance and Human Rights in the EU after 2015
Securitization and the Reconfiguration of Solidarity

This article critically examines the European Union’s migration policies after the 2015 crisis, focusing on the reinterpretation of the principle of solidarity and the increasing securitization of migration. Drawing on qualitative research, it is grounded in a critical review of specialized literature and in the analysis of European Union institutional documents in order to explore tensions between sovereignty, security, and shared responsibility. It analyzes the role of Frontex, the externalization of borders, and conditions in reception centers, highlighting how security discourse has reshaped the Union’s normative foundations. The article argues that by prioritizing control and containment, EU migration governance reproduces historical hierarchies and weakens the protection of rights.
