Interdisciplinary Challenges in the Era of Climate Change
Climate change, underscored by global catastrophic events, has emerged as a critical concern, particularly within social, cultural, and economic contexts. These changes significantly impact vulnerable populations, exacerbated by environmental racism, necessitating attention from movements aimed at reducing these social inequalities. In Brazil, various climatic phenomena, such as mass movements and abrupt temperature changes, as well as prolonged periods of drought and flooding, are noteworthy. This dossier aims to compile studies and research focused on climate change and its consequences. It also seeks alternatives for a dignified and secure existence, all from the perspective of environmental justice. The phenomena will be analyzed through the lens of the humanities, encompassing the following thematic axes:
Social Axis: Focuses on the impact on vulnerable populations, addressing issues such as gender, environmental racism, and environmental justice.
Cultural Axis: Deals with environmental activism, sustainability, and education for environmental awareness.
Economic Axis: Examines the impact on family agricultural production, public health, circular energy, and disaster management, including human costs.
Legal Axis: Discusses laws, regulations, assistance, public and climate policies, and the role of the state.
Given the urgency of the climate change debate, it is essential to promote multi- and interdisciplinary dialogues in various formats to reach a broader audience. Therefore, a dossier is proposed that engages with the humanities. Papers in innovative formats, such as reports and chronicles, may also be submitted, provided they align with at least one of the proposed themes and maintain ethical and academic rigor. Submissions will be accepted continuously for the 2023 and 2024 editions of the "Conversas e Controvérsias" Journal, with the deadline set for May 30, 2024.

Dossier Overview:
The academic literature on educational inequality has consistently underscored the central role of education in shaping multiple dimensions of social life. Education has been identified as a key determinant of occupational status, income distribution, and positioning within labor markets. Beyond its function as a mechanism for skill acquisition as outlined in formal curricula, educational attainment is a critical gateway to distinct socio-economic outcomes and trajectories.
The processes of educational expansion, both in national and international contexts, have significantly redefined the role of education. These processes have been marked by milestones such as the universalization of primary education, increased levels of schooling within populations, the diversification of educational modalities, and the broadening of access to higher education. However, these advancements coexist with persistent and profound social inequalities that continue to characterize educational trajectories. Challenges remain particularly acute in public policy, which seeks to address issues of inclusion, access, retention, and the improvement of educational outcomes.
Given these dynamics, the dossier Educational Inequality in Debate: Reflections and Perspectives seeks to establish a platform for scholarly dialogue on the interplay between education, social stratification, and inequality. The dossier aims to critically examine the educational transformations of recent decades, exploring their implications for individual trajectories, whether in terms of access, retention, or outcomes across diverse educational stages, as well as their influence on the successful completion of these stages.
Topics of Interest:
This dossier invites the submission of original research that examines the impact of systemic changes within education and the role of social origin in shaping educational opportunities and outcomes. Submissions that explore the intersection of educational inequality with socio-economic class, gender, race/ethnicity, geographic region, and the divide between public and private education are especially welcome. Contributions addressing distinctions between in-person and distance education (EAD, acronym in Portuguese), the mediation between educational credentials and labor market outcomes, and the phenomenon of credential inflation are also encouraged.

Political Culture and Public Opinion: Contemporary Debates, Challenges, and Perspectives
Since the foundational work of Almond and Verba, the notion of political culture has become a central category for understanding the foundations of democracy and the functioning of political institutions. Subsequent contributions by theorists such as Inglehart, Welzel, Norris, and Dalton have broadened the scope of analysis and debate, incorporating important insights on cultural change, political support, democratic legitimacy, and the relationship between political preferences and values, attitudes, and behaviors. In contexts marked by crises of representation, political polarization, democratic risks, and the emergence of new repertoires of collective action, the study of political culture and public opinion has become increasingly relevant for understanding the relationships among individuals, society, and politics.
This special issue aims to gather research that examines, from theoretical, empirical, or comparative perspectives, the links between politics, values, attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors in contemporary societies. Based on the premise that political-cultural factors constitute both the foundation of democratic legitimacy and the backdrop for the formulation of public policies and government decisions, this issue seeks to provide a space for discussion on how these elements shape—and are shaped by—historical, institutional, and cultural experiences.
We welcome papers that investigate the connections between values and democracy, the effects of political culture on political behaviors and decisions, the diffusion of policies across diverse cultural contexts, as well as the relationship between public opinion, institutions, and processes of social change. Contributions that engage with critical approaches will also be valued, as they help advance the understanding of the limits and possibilities of using theoretical and methodological frameworks from political culture and public opinion, as well as the theoretical-epistemological pitfalls of applying such approaches to contexts different from those in which they were originally developed.
Submission deadline: June 30, 2026.
