Abstract

The use of artificial fruits in experiments makes it possible the control of the variable of interest for studies with frugivory and seed dispersal. This work had as objective to verify if frugivorous birds prefer fruits in different habitats and if they demonstrate some preferences for the fruits color. Artificial fruits of three colors (orange, blue and black) had been confectioned, and afterwards displayed in the edge and the interior of Dense Ombrophylous Forest. From the 144 considered artificial fruits in experiment 46 of them presented frugivory evidences, 32 in edge and 14 inside of the forest. The statistical tests had shown that it had more evidences of frugivory in the edge (χ² = 7.043; gl =1; p = 0,008) and also there were no preferences for the color (χ² = 0,160; gl = 2; p = 0,923).
