Feminicide in Brazil: A critical feminist analysis

This article analyzes, from a theory and feminist criminology perspectives, the criminalization proposals of femicide in Brazil and the new qualifying included in the Criminal Code. The article discusses the conceptual differences in the bill passed, its legal and criminological legitimacy and possible theoretical losses of the legal definition and increased penalty. It concludes that the original proposal of the Joint Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry was the one that approached feminist perspective with less costs of activating the punitive system.
