Abstract

SUMMARY
The stability of the mold is one of the most important factors to obtaining a accuracy impression and the care with the custom trays extremely necessary. Thus, from a view that as the thickness of the mold as the retentions of the tray can be influence in the stability of the impression during the removal of the mouth, the purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the relief space and the perforation of the tray on the alteration of the irreversible hydrocolloid impressions, current of the removal action, evaluating the inclination of the outline of the palate in the anterior and posterior area through graphic computation. A master model was made in acrylic resin representing an edentulous maxillary that was plane in the palatal area and in the internal slope of the alveolar edge. Trays were made in acrylic resin with 3 different relief (3 mm, 4,5 mm and 6 mm) being a group with perforation and other without perforation, totaling in 6 studied groups. The election material necessáfor accomplishment the impression was Jeltrate Plus (Dentsply), being accomplished 7 impressions for each group. After obtaining of the casts with plaster type IV, the same ones were scanned and the anterior and posterior profile reading in the software AutoCad 2000. The results allowed to concluded that: the perforated tray with relief (3 mm) represented the best situation, with the averages no statistically different in relation to the master model. The study did not showed differences statistically significant (p < 0,05) among the groups in that trays was used without perforation in relation to the perforated trays.
